Our History

Founded in 1867, King University (originally King College) is a Christian academic community that integrates rigorous academic programming with an exploration of faith.

King University is a Presbyterian-affiliated, doctoral-level comprehensive university that offers more than 90 majors, minors, pre-professional degrees, and concentrations.

For the 29th consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report has recognized King among the best colleges in the nation. The Princeton Review has named King one of the Best Colleges in the Southeast for a 15th consecutive year based on campus life, academics, admissions, and financial aid. King has also been selected by G.I. Jobs as a Military Friendly® School and recognized by the Brookings Institution, which ranked the University third in Tennessee in 2016 for preparing students for high-paying careers.

King is located in Bristol, Tennessee. Our campus resides in the far northeast of the state on the Virginia border, nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains.
